How Much Does a Yacht Survey Cost?

Survey fees are only part of the total cost. Haul-out, launch, yard fees and sea trial expenses are usually billed separately.

How surveyors usually price

Pre-purchase survey fees are commonly based on vessel length, sometimes with a minimum fee, and sometimes with thresholds where the rate changes for larger yachts. Complexity, travel and report turnaround can also affect the quote.

  • A per-foot or per-metre rate, or a fixed quotation for the vessel
  • A minimum fee for smaller vessels
  • Additional hourly charges for extended sea trials or attendance
  • Specialist inspection charges for engines, rigging or electrical systems

Costs paid to the boatyard, not the surveyor

  • Haul-out and launch using a travel lift
  • Blocking or cradle time if the vessel stays ashore
  • Pressure washing where charged separately
  • General yard fees

Sea trial costs

  • Additional surveyor time
  • Captain and crew where required
  • Fuel
  • Marina or dockage expenses
  • Overtime or weekend surcharges

Local pricing varies significantly by market. Verified local figures are published on our city pages where we have confirmed them with a source and a verification date.

Comparing quotes fairly

When comparing surveyors, check whether the quote includes the sea trial, whether the haul-out is arranged by you or the surveyor, how long the report takes, and whether specialist inspections are quoted separately. The cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest outcome if the report is thin.

Arrange an Independent Pre-Purchase Survey

Tell us where the yacht is and we’ll help you identify independent marine surveyors near the vessel.
